Book Changes

This weekend, I changed the titles of two of my books. Why?  Because I had seen The Affairs of Harriet Walters, Spinster doing so much better than her sisters, Good Intentions and Road Kill, and I came to think that it had something to do with The Affairs of Harriet Walters, Spinster being a snazzier title.

True, romances outsell mysteries, so that might account for part of it.  But Harriet Walters and Good Intentions are both Regency romances with similar covers, so I was led to believe that the titles of the other books just weren't doing them justice.

Good Intentions has become The Marriage Market, and Road Kill is now Framed for Murder.  The mystery title was the harder of the two to come up with.  As a matter of fact, I think I just about made myself and my husband, Reid, crazy last Wednesday night as I tossed out possible title after title.  Framed for Murder sums up the plot in three words, plus I was beginning to think that Road Kill was actually putting some people off.  Not a classy name, was it?

I also never really liked the cover for Road Kill, even though I paid $125 to have it designed for me, so this time I bought a picture of a prison cell door from Dreamstime.com and had Reid's help in choosing the fonts.  I'll post it below; see what you think.

Finally, I also raised the prices on all three full-length books from $.99 to $2.99.  I actually wanted to price the books at $2.89 to make the price stand out a little ($2.99 is a very common price), and because I've always like the number "8" (a little superstition there), but the minimum price Amazon will give you a 70% royalty on is $2.99, and 35% of $2.89 or 70% of $2.99 - well, you do the math.  $.99 was always just a starter price to help develop a reading audience, so we'll see how the new pricing does.

Here's the new cover for Framed for Murder.  The links haven't changed; you can still find them at Amazon.com and Smashwords.com (although it will take a couple or so weeks for Smashwords to distribute the changes to the other e-retailers.  You can find all of my books at my author's sites:
